Denver?

I'm in Denver for the week for a conference and thought I could wing it.
But after a terrible experience last night I definitely need to engage the disorderly hive mind.

So I'd be most appreciative of recs for places to eat and drink in Denver. Bonus points for geeky or natural wines. I'm staying downtown near the convention center.

Like most convention centers, the surrounding area appears to be a wasteland of cookie cutter Americana restaurant-in-a-box places, but hopefully I'm wrong on that.
 
The Berserkers thread covers a lot of ground from more locally-knowledgeable people. But FWIW, I was in Denver two weeks ago and had a very lovely meal at Fruition. So I support that recommendation. Delicious and definitely more about finesse than portion size.

Mercantile was fantastic tonight, thanks Keith!
Wine markups were some of the worst I've seen in awhile, but absolutely loved the food.
