It was clear out the fridge night at the monkey household (interesting fact, both my wife and youngest daughter are monkeys according to the Chinese zodiac) so something snappy was in order. Not sure if folks are familiar with what Chris is doing with this wine, but he's putting it in bottle at 12.5% alcohol with lots of brambly and herb notes laced into a red fruited package. Brisk and lively it went down really fast and even my snobby father-in-law allowed that it was "OK, for a zinfandel". Really worth checking out if oyu haven't already. Also, it might pay to lose a bottle or two for a couple of years. I don't think this wine will make old bones or anything, but my experience is that a couple of years really makes the fruit pop.
We also had some 2013 Kistler McCrea, which wasn't nearly as bad as I was expecting. I'd never buy it, but it was interesting to drink something outside the simian zone.
