2004 Librandi Duca SanFelice Ciro
$20 Ohio. Garnet red in color with some deeper colors at the core. Mostly clear and bright. The nose has tar and cherries but not in a Barolo way. More like the smell of freshly paved smoky tart. Also notes of chocolate. On the palate, this is mostly cherries, sour cherries and a bit of bitter cherries (in a good way). The finish has a pleasant bitterness that begs for food. Not a profound wine, although it is young. Plenty of old world enjoyment out of this bottle. At $5 less it would be a steal, at the $20 Ohio price I am not buying more. 2004 Bodegas Pinord +7 Priorat
$40 Ohio. Purple/ruby in color, mostly opaque and bright. The nose has vanilla, cherries, and raspberries. Also a ton of oak/cedar. Full bodied. On the palate, this has a lot of alcohol showing (14.5%) and seems out of whack. Some cherry fruit with raspberries. For the most part, alcohol and oak dominate here. Will this settle out with time? I dont know, but I am glad I dont only own any more.
