How bad an idea is it to visit the Loire valley in October?

Bicycles are for the young and eccentric. Rent a car. See magnificent chateaus. Tool into Vouvray, stop at a bar, ask for glass of the local wine, Get a perfectly nice glass of Vouvray, sit back and enjoy. Get a Blue Guide and find weird things to see between two places. Follow your nose. There's always things to see and pleasure to be had. It's not Provence, but 'twill do, 'twill serve.

I hope you like tapestries...

Definitely visit Pinon and you should do Huet and Foreau as they're literally 500 feet from each other.

Without any strings pulled, I found Huet relatively disappointing as a winery visit. Sanitized countertop tasting of wines a bit too young in a corporate setting with Scandinavian décor kind of thing.

You should have tried claiming you were Joe Dougherty.

Having visiting Huet with Joe Dougherty I can honestly say that we got the same treatment as Oswaldo. Though now I'm thinking that might have been a bit before Tony bought the estate. After that, JD was flying first class there.

Additional data point: 2009 vintage, earlier than usual harvest. We picked Clos Guillot in the morning of October 7th and moved over to Croix Boisee after lunch.
