TN: Rhoney store tasting (April 27, 2018)

A few slurps at a local shop, served with some nice breadsticks, beef jerky, and schnookery:

Xavier Gerard 2014 Condrieu "Marmouzin" - I raised the glass to my lips with trepidation but this is really good... no ponderous oak, limp acidity, and greasy flowers, this is rather bright and crisp, still weighty and still floral up front but it finishes minerally, even earthy; unexpected but I'm happy for it

Etienne Becheras 2014 St. Joseph - the other name unknown to me, this is an easy quaffer

Gilles 2014 Cornas - clean and pure blue fruit, full and vibrant and intense and in your face, pow!

Burgaud 2014 Côte-Rôtie - from magnum; red-fruited, more elegance than power, very traditional (including a little brett, maybe?), good

Levet 2014 Côte-Rôtie "La Chavaroche" - another wow-pow wine, texturally more interesting than the Gilles, sticks-y, tangy, manly, another one to hold for a while

The Mme and I visited Levet once, I think it must have been 04, maybe 05...drank a bottle of 02 up in the vineyards above town and it was so delicious...perfect picnic wine.
