Terrific, cheap red Burgundy. 70 year old vines, tank raised, very classic, light, elegant. From village Marsannay vines. Great value at $20.
 
Hm, this is one of Weygandts, que no? I bought some of their Marsannay en Combereau a while ago. Will have to swing by the store and try a bottle of this. Thanks.
 
Yes, it's a Weygandt importation.

This is totally tank raised but not reductive - new oak free and pure. Looks like from the website that the Marsannay single vineyard cuvees are 25% new oak, which is enough for me to run screaming. I note there is also a Marsannay VV all tank cuvee, but it looks actually like this wine has their oldest vineyards (1947).

I had enjoyed the Collotte Marsannay rose previously, which is excellent.

I am also intrigued by their Marsannay blanc. The Roty version is singular, classic and great.
 
I'm not a strong quercophobe, and little well-judged oak does not deter me, especially in wines that will cellar a while. I think Peter is pretty high on this producer.
 
Drank this over the course of last week. Thought it a bit thin and unremarkable out of the bottle, but with slow oxidation and rest time in the fridge, it develops very nicely to a Bourgogne of depth, texture and richness. Very nice. Give these a year or four, IMHO. Value here.

Plan to shift seamlessly to Collotte's village Marsannay VV this week for purposes of comparison - just a couple of dollars more.
