Monterey area dining reccos?

The family and I are going to find ourselves in Monterey late next week. Anyone got recent-ish experience with the restaurants out there? I'm particularly interested in seafood-focused menus but all info welcomed.

It has been a while, but I recall a really nice seafood-focused meal at Passionfish in Pacific Grove. The current wine list seems like it would pass muster for our kind.

That’s good to hear. It was the one place that stood out in what I could find online.

You might want to see the Berserker place for a long and entirely *bleep* recent discussion, complete with typical wine bored infighting, on Passionfish. I myself have no opinion.

The wine list at Passionfish is pretty incredible for a Disorderly palate, with dozens of wines I’d like to drink at very close to retail pricing.

Thanks... I think. I just waded through that trainwreck of a thread and may have come away somewhat enlightened.

There was an awesome charcoal rotisserie chicken spot the last time I was there. Back in grad school [gulp]

Sorry. Maybe my warning should have been more explicit about what I was sending you to. At least the train wrecks here are *ahem* sophisticated.

You mean like fundamental misunderstanding about the nature and purpose of measurement?

Uncanny, you took the words right out of my mouth.

I see people have had bad experiences at Passionfish but I was there this Monday and had a fabulous and most unique duck confit. Paired with a reasonably priced 2013 Levet Cote Rotie, it was definitely a memorable meal. As usual, place was packed even on a Monday nite.

So we just ate at Passionfish tonight. I can see that if you’re looking for culinary innovation that it might disappoint, but we had a most satisfying meal of various piscine dishes that featured some local flora and fauna. We also made great use of the wonderful wine list, starting with a half bottle of the Laherte Freres ‘Utratradition’ that was crisp, biscuitty and rich in mouthfeel and followed by a quite lively half bottle of 2016 Do Ferreiro Albariño that had its usual saline and herbal character. It had the added benefit of being a 5 min walk from our Airbnb house.

Thanks, all!
