Warren, I can't drink fizzy or acidic beverages so I had some Raveneau (poor me) during the reception.

Everyone seemed to like it a great deal...it was out of magnums. This bottling is rarely available...the Sommelier said something like a 6-pack (or some such) comes into town so he said he was lucky he could grab it. Very little comes into the US as well.

Oh I am aware of how little comes to the country. I just received my tiny allocation of 2011s. I have one bottle of 2009 but will hold!

Maureen,

François Raveneau Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 1er Cru '07 -- I got two pours of this. One was noticeably darker and edgier. The lighter colored one was round, rich, full, smooth almost slick, acid somewhat buffered by the good fruit, really a delightful sampling of this premier cru. It worked well with the compelling striped bass course (with the gastrique treatment being a special treat).

Domaine Pierre Gelin Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru '09 -- Quite dark, captivating earthy bouquet, complex, medium deep, some dryness in the fruit initially. At first, in my judgement, subpar. Fortunately I saved some for later sampling and found that it had rounded into better shape significantly with more roundness, friendliness, personality, wow-factor. The later sampling had everything I had expected beforehand. Almost like two different wines. I guess (but I'm not sure) the conclusion needs to be that more time in the cellar will serve it well.
