attendees: Jonny + Gail, Lisa, Jayson, Jay, Jeff

The annual visit. We go to North Square, for the pistachio-crusted rack of lamb, if nothing else. The corkage is up (again) but the manager graciously agrees to take it down a notch for us.

F.X. Pichler 2015 Gruner Veltliner Loibner Klostersatz Federspiel - good and pure but uncomfortably assertive (even the next day), maybe hold a while before cracking another

Luneau-Papin 2014 Muscadet "L d'Or" "Granite" - gorgeous, tactile (meaning a bit more viscous than usual for muscadet), lemon and lavender, must run out and buy some of this

Clos Saint-Jean 1994 Chateauneuf-du-Pape - the sticker says $14.99, mid-weight, elegant, hints of feminine perfume and fresh tomato, hides its 14% very easily

Gonon 2006 Saint-Joseph - needs a bit of air to open up, then rich and "plummy" (meaning, delectable), red-fruited, velvet texture, punchy acids, wow, glad I have this in storage

Max Grunhauser 2004 Abstberg Spatlese - 3 536 014 17 05, 8%, fetched back from the ice bucket... incredibly forward and intense nose!, lime and SweeTarts, another amazing bottle

Texier 2001 Cote-Rotie - complex, juicy acidity, a hint of old rubber-bands, tannins present but very fine

Ridge 1996 Montebello - everything you could want in a cab: strength all across the palate, just-so ripe fruit, a scoop of earth, a trace of roasty tobacco

De Forville 1975 Barbaresco - needs a bit of air to blow off some tin/iron, then vivid floral/fruity nose, full-on raspberry and wafer-cookie on the palate, tangy acidity, fifth great bottle tonight

Thank you to one and all for a fun evening.
