2006:
Still rather youthful and likely needs a bit more time to show its cards. It comes across rather reserved at first, but a couple of hours in the decanter bring out dark berried fruit, earth, and those classic Chinon green herbal/forestal notes. The structure is very prominent right now and while it's enjoyable with air, it's more about the potential than the present right now.
2007:
This on the other hand is fantastic right now. Right after opening it's a very pretty wine with lots of tobacco and red and dark fruit, and time in the glass brings out out more savoury earthy and chalky mineral notes. Lighter on the palate than the 2006 and it's much softer texturally - the structure here comes largely from the acidity, rather than tannin, so it's much easier to drink right now. Both are fantastic wines, but I'm glad I have the 07 to drink right now while I continue waiting on my other bottles of the '06.
