2004 Bernard Levet Côte-Rôtie La Chavaroche
Pretty much everything I want Côte-Rôtie to be. The youthful red fruit and funky stemminess from a few years ago has now moved to the background, and it's all about more savoury smoky, olive-y, and gamey flavours with a bright floral topnote. It seems like it's just entering an awesome plateau of maturity. There's still a bit of grainy tannin on the back end and lots of bright acidity providing structure and suggesting there's no rush, but right now this is everything I could want from a bottle of aged Syrah.
