For me, one of the most perplexing descriptors on a coffee label is “varietal.” Each coffee shop or roaster refers to some of their coffees as “varietals,” but it always seems to mean something slightly different."

Ha-ha, indeed it is. I once did an experiment where I stuck a coffee description from Peets into a series of wine descriptions from reviews. No one could tell it was coffee.
