PSA: 2017 Briords

IOW, the other thread didn't do justice to just how well this wine is showing at the present time. And it's morphed into more of an Ameztoi-lime for its citrus note. This is not necessarily a bad thing.

One pallet?

Much as I love the wine, that seems a little heavy.

Where do you get that allocation anyway?

Oh no, simply my 'usual' allocation of 1 bottle. I don't need to overload as this is nearly always a yearly purchase.

I assume you don't like it much - or? I suspect that many of us consume it in case quantities; pallet(s) probably not.

Oh, I love Briords, but there I still have Muscadet from the early aughts I need to get through. You know the story: too many wines, too little occasion, and a new vintage every year.

Yeah, I get where you're coming from, Mark. Got lots of older Briords myself -- and not just Briords. Three is the new twelve, when it comes to new purchases.

But this 2017 Briords is worth an exception. I tried one, bought four more, and now am going back for even more. Just that good.

Additionally, aged Muscadet can be great, but it just doesn't scratch the same itch as young Muscadet. And sometimes I want the younger bottlings. None of my post-2012 Briords is living to see old age.

True dat. Drinking the younger minerally Briords is more my cup of tea. Sure, I get the older wines, too, but I don't love them the way I love the younger ones on a daily basis. These are not the wines I age. Barolo and Cornas, yes.

I hear this around here, but I don't grok it. I am an old man and am on a (moderate) cellar reduction plan. But I like my Briords--and my Clisson, and myu L d'Or--both young and old. This means I buy in quantities of six bottles or a case, drink some young and then leave the rest while new stuff comes in, and so always have some old and new ones to choose from. I expect my nephew and his partner will get a decent amount of our cellar, but I don't think they should hold out for the muscadets I cellar.

This debate is funny. Most of you are asking yourselves: should I buy one, three or six bottles? Maybe a case if it's a really good vintage?

My annual question with Clos des Briords is not how many bottles to purchase, but how many cases? The minimum is one. In a good vintage we could be talking three cases. It is our house white, and in my opinion it is one of the few world-class wines that can still be had for what is truly a reasonable price.

We have already gone through five bottles of the 2017, and it's not even summer yet, when our Muscadet consumption practically doubles.

PSA: 2017 BriordsYou did not buy enough. That is all.

Delighted to learn I have not bought enough, in contrast to 2014, when I didn't buy any.

Three is the new case for me, too, but I filled out a case with half a dozen of these, during the recent Chambers sale, on top of some Kohler-Ruprecht and Gorges.
