XP: Most Awesome Omurice

It has to be 1980 Pichon Lalande, no?

One of the vignettes in Juzo Itami’s fabulous film Tampopo is of a homeless “chef” breaking into a kitchen to make omuraisu for the titular protaganist’s son, who didn’t want any of the haute cuisine that they had collected from dumpsters -- including a 1980 Pichon Lalande. A must-see film IMO.

Omuraisu is a Japanese comfort food and an example of Yoshoku (Western-style food). It’s often made with ketchup. Pete’s video here is basically equivalent to fancy hash browns and eggs. Perhaps the best pairing is coffee. Or a Beaujolais-Villages if you’re having breakfast for dinner.

Tampopo is a great movie and my favorite of Itami’s catalogue. The scene that sticks with me, though, is the one where the man eats noodles off the body of a naked woman — no idea why.
