TN: Cellar-ish Some More (May 17, 2019)

I defer to your memory. Also Garagiste in a year with a bad rep makes sense. They might have been moving overstock at half price or something. I wish I'd seen that sale as I would have bought the wine in a heartbeat.

On and off over the years, garagiste has done onsite sales. This was from one of those.

I love this thread and the exposure of all things high and low.

Good to remember that country wines (ie Clape a la 94) were all over the place - labels, capsules, corks, bottles, whatever was at hand, etc.

And the big question is: how was the Clape 94?

My favorite memory of a Clape Cornas was buying a case of 02 (remember that vintage), opening one in my old Toyota Corolla Alltrac on a quiet sidestreet in Seattle, no glass, taking a sip, and drinking the whole fucking thing in all its wonderful ashy, earthy, nonfruity glory. 82 points, Motherfucker.

Hmm, I have a guiltily poignant empathetic reponse,... and an envious one, since I began collecting Clape Cornas(small amounts) each vintage since 1996.
But I gotta say I never opened the bottle with my teeth and I never drank from the neck with abandon, More power to you!

Especially while driving!

In reverse, up a snowy hillside!

Gotta have good molars to really appreciate wine....

I bought Peter Lauer and Joseph Voillot wines, and a couple bottles of Fichet Meursault. So far, our personal anecdotes include two people who have actually taken delivery of their orders with no issues, and no anecdotes of people who haven't. Of course, the prices still seem too good to be true, and that may well mean the store is experiencing financial distress and may not be around in the fall when I would like to take delivery. I have confidence my credit card company will protect me in that event, so I am going to let it ride and see what happens. If that makes me a sucker, then so be it.

For those still interested, I received the last of my First the Wine orders from last May (I went back for more after it was too hot to ship from LA to the Bay Area). All legit, all in good shape.

They're doing a 30% off sale on some wines now for Thanksgiving. Lots of JJ Prum and some other interesting stuff. I have no interest other than spreading the word about some good deals.

Timely update, Jim. I just took delivery a couple of weeks ago of the wines I ordered. And they all seem to be in good shape. Opened a 2015 Joseph Voillot Pommard Les Epenots (you know, for science), and it was showing well for a wine at that stage of its evolution.

Well, Science drinks pretty well. But what do you open for Terpsichore? And is there anything to serve to Temperance?

The answers, respectively, are l'Anglore and obviously no.

Well, a little painful to hear all this...but good on ya as they say and really, I have bigger things to stress about, like climate change.

That's where the wine helps, BJ. Hope to see you down in the Bay Area sometime soon.
