1999 Texier Hermitage

mlawton

Michael k lawton
this bottle is really and truly delicious tonight. Not sure if it's a representative bottle or not, but I am really enjoying this one. It's more in the mind of a beefy "french dip", plenty of "jus" - rather than the bacony/porky thing I thought I was going to get. I can't report much on food match, other than that it tasted great with roasted cashews. But it also tasted great without the nuts too.

If you have a few, might be a nice time to try one, if it tastes like this one.

Merci, ric! (and Joe, I see your name here too, Je vous remercie aussi)

Save some for the next day. The fruit turns black!

um, that sounds like a good idea but it's pretty much too late. I'm not sure what happened.

I think 6:00 hockey practice is going to come too early.

My god - a mlawton tasting note. Are you buying wine again too?

We've skipped hockey for a week due to the cold from hell imported from Brooklyn.

Ummm...no. Not buying wine. I think I have enough for a while, at least a week or two.

We had 3 practices Saturday, then a game today. I keep looking in the mirror to see if I've become Troiano. Not yet.

Love this wine. Wish I had some.

I got lucky - several cases on Florida Jim closeout at NBI back when. I think it came to $14 a bottle. Picked up.

Make sure you tell Eric next time you see him. He'll be really happy.

This was not long after it became public that he was going back to LDM. Perhaps the two events were related?

Oh, I just think it would be funny to tell Eric you bought his Hermitage for $14. I think he is funny as hell when he's mad.

Great stuff - lot o bottle variation but tasty. Mmm cashews.

When I saw Mr. Texier at Chambers several years ago, at a Joe Dressner fest, I asked him about this wine and when I should try it. He said that it was time to drink it. I've tried two bottles and liked them. They seemed ready to go for my palate.

Is this something that is produced every year? I only seem to find references on the interwebs for 1999 and 2000 as well as a tasting note from Lyle F. on the 2007.

On a vaguely related note how big is the Hermitage appelation?

cheers,

Kevin

Gotta agree with Mr. Czyryca on the commentary about variation. A bottle of this in September had the "Do Not Disturb" sign prominently displayed on the door knob, while a bottle in December couldn't have been more pleasantly drinkable (and similar to Mike's note).
