2007 Simon Bize Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Aux Guettes
Intrigued by Chablis28's note (on Cellartracker), I dove into the crawl space and retrieved one of these. I'm not smitten like s/he is, it's a good, solid SlB, in the Bize mode - i.e., head and shoulders above other wines from the appellation - but lacks the ravishing beauty of, say, his Vergelesses from the same year. A bit rustic, acid seems not thoroughly integrated with fruit-derived flavors. These qualities are in line with expectations for a Guettes, and the wine may improve on the second night, or with more time in the cellar. Solid and good for what it is.
.... a few nights later, I don't know if it's improved much, but it isn't degrading, even with careless handling. Interesting.
2006 Simon Bize Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Aux Vergelesses
Lean, stingy, stoney and acidic on opening. Alone, no fun; with food, quite good. Fruit flavors and aromas fill in somewhat over two nights, but never as generous and delicious as the 2007 half bottles we drank through a few years ago. Interesting vintage, in general; not sure where this wine is headed over the next few years. We'll see.
