Josh Wertlieb question

I think I just got a new kind of phishing email.

It purports to be from Josh Wertlieb, who says he has lost his wallet and would like me to wire him a few thousand dollars in London.

I think I only met Josh once, when he was selling wine in Boston, so it is hardly credible that he would think of asking me for a loan.

I am posting here to see -- have any of you gotten this sort of email?

Does anyone know if Josh is even in London now?

I am 99.99% sure this is spam and scam but it's something new so I wanted to know if others have run into this specific thing.

I received one as well. Josh must have a virus on his computer. The email reads exactly like one of those Nigerian investment scam emails.

I sent Josh Wertlieb money, in response to the same e-mail, and received $12,000,000.00 in my offshore account as compensation.

Damn. Wish I'd had the cojones to do that. OTOH, this could simply be part of the massive erp.com maintenance project.

I sent him the same amount and my off-site storage tells me that 1000 bottles of Roederer Cristal 1949 have arrived. Where will I put them?

Right next to the '46 DRC RC from last time.

Frankly all they need is his name and maybe a credible email address.

I doubt if his computer even had a virus.

There is a telephone version of this scam where your great nephew calls you from Alberta, Canada saying that he's in jail and he needs $2500 for bail. You haven't heard from him for years so you don't even know where he is (which is probably Miami or something). They prey on older folks in that version hoping to drive them into a quick panic and provoke immediate action. And they will chat for 20 minutes and be charming and sound roughly like your great nephew...

Anyway, good luck with "fixing" this Josh... At least your wine board friends will know better.

Actually, Josh might need more luck with his business model. Spare cash just isn't what it used to be. Even for rich folks.
