Chateau de Beaucastel Chateauneuf du Pape '99 -- Dark red, complex abundant nose of dark berries, leather, spice, and more. Lively and full on palate, lots of fruit, tannins evident but reserved, nicely integrated, smooth, no edges or heat, delicious with still plenty of life left. Another Beaucastel winner! [E]
Superb matchup with cooktop-grilled prime strip steak, crispy-bottom rice mixed with fava beans/onions/mixed vegetables/etc. Then Gouda cheese and pear and chocolate nibbles.
Altogether a wonderful dinner.
