I can't say that I'm terribly interested in any of the wines, Pete (though I do have some curiosity about how a Burgundy lover like you felt about the Pheasant Ridge Pinot Noir) but that Hunter's Quail sounds wonderful, as does most of the menu.

Mark, interesting that you should ask about Pheasant Ridge Pinot Noir '00 as I have a long history with that estate.

It all began back in the '90s on the old Prodigy board. A participant at that time was Bobby Cox an acclaimed winegrower who at that time, with his wife, owned Pheasant Ridge.

One of the wines Bobby produced was the Pheasant Ridge PN '89. It was a fabulous wine that I liked a lot. He bottled it completely unfined and unfiltered so it was the real thing. San Antonio turned down their allocation due to its having leaves and twigs in it so that batch came here. I bought a lot of it. I served the '89 numerous times to Burgundy (quasi?)experts and without exception each person tagged it as a Burgundy. One nationally, even internationally, known Burgundy expert thought it was a Chambolle Musigny. I posted about the wine on the Prodigy board and was requested to ship some bottles, which I did free gratis. Everyone loved the wine for many years. My supply finally got exhausted but people still tease me about serving the Pheasant Ridge PN blind.

One of the Pheasant Ridge investors ended up buying the estate ~1993. He became, and still is, a close friend. He provided the 2000 for this dinner. It was very well received and in surprisingly good shape...only hints of maderization in one bottle.

My friend sold the estate a few years ago. I can't recall having any recent vintages so I'm not aware if the quality is still high.

Those were the days.

And, yes, the Hunter's Quail was as good as it sounds, the stuffing was very tasty...
