Monterey

I'll be in Monterey for the first time in mid November and was hoping someone could help with restaurant, bar, wine shop recommendations. Also, if there are any wineries of interest maybe 30 ish minutes away recommendations would be most welcome.

i did find https://www.passionfish.net , which looks like it has a terrific wine list with very nice pricing.

i searched around for some wineries to visit but didn't find anything compelling.
Anyone been to the Bates Ranch vineyard that's now being farmed by Kenny L of Ghostwriter? worth a visit? i just had the Cab for the first time and thought it was quite good and i don't really drink much cab anymore. clocked in at only 12.8% ABV.

anyway, thanks in advance.

Bill, we had a terrific meal at Passionfish last Spring. It’s been around a long while and some naysayers will knock it for lack of innovation, but it does what it does very well, and I appreciate that. And, yes, nice wine list. Local wineries aren’t the most appealing. Are the Santa Cruz mountains too far?

No, not too far, we would take a day trip to santa cruz. i imagine the drive from Monterey to Santa Cruz is pretty nice

Glancing at the map, I don't recognize many names nearby. About an hour away to the east is Calera, a little further away to the north is Bonny Doon. I could be curious to try somebody nearby, say Wrath, just to see what they do.

The drive to Santa Cruz is nice indeed, taking you along the coast for some of the time. To get to Rhys, Mt Eden or Ridge would take an additional 45 min of mountain road driving.

Birichino in Santa Cruz is worth visiting. Also, if you like beer, Santa Cruz is filled with breweries.

i like what I've had from Birichino. Didn't think of them. Thanks for the suggestion.

Will be spending a little time with Comrade Dashe before we set off for Monterey. I imagine he could set us up at Ridge. Thanks for the suggestion. i also like some of what I've had from Mt Eden but don't have much experience.
