90 Roumier Bonnes Mares (both French and US versions)

There were two versions? What was the difference between them?

One bottle was bought in Paris, the other in NYC. Those tasting the two wines came to the presumption that there was perhaps less sulfur used on the non exported bottle (Paris bottle slightly more transparent), but I have no knowledge beyond this tasting, and it is difficult to come to any definitive conclusions on bottles with this much age.. Both were wonderful.

2019 was a waste.
in 2017, 85 Clos Ste Hune was the wine of the year, despite stiff competition.
in 2018, among particularly formidable specimen, 85 Clos Ste Hune was the wine of year once again.
in 2019, I did not have 85 Clos Ste Hune.
It is the Mother of white wine.

2007 Louis Boillot Gevrey Cherbaudes
My first Boillot and it lived up to expectation. Feminine, profound and so good with food.

That is a most helpful and exciting data point. Thank you.

For those interested in such things, I tasted in Burgundy for 8 days in November. In a challenging 2018, I found Louis Boillot's range to be the most consistent of all, perhaps with the highest average quality if you were to play with numbers and weigh by the number of wines in the cellar.

Also, his 2018 Beaujolais are a miracle, given what I've tasted so far from both the Cote d'Or based Gamay producers as well as the usual suspects released back in NYC. And, for that matter, his previous vintages of the same.

Presumably this means the wines show freshness despite the torrid heat of the vintage? Any particular explanation for that miracle?

Of course I have not tasted any of his Beaujolais wines from any vintage, so can only imagine. Will look for them.

Joe, actually I believe you intended to say Rene (Engel).

The Rene Engel wines were superb, especially at their attractive price points.

The head of domaine rene engel in 2003 was Philippe Engel.

Thanks, Maureen. One of the nicest vignerons I sadly only had the chance to meet once. So passionate and generous with me, a Burgundy newb.

Joe, sorry I misspoke about Philippe. I've got a good bit of Engel wines so I feel I should probably have known (or recalled) better.

. . . . Pete

2013 Hirtzberger Singerriedel Riesling Smaragd. This somewhat cooler vintage was the ideal vehicle to show the greatness of the site and how it expresses purity and power. Almost hard to describe how good this was. Somehow, it put Keller’s phenomenal 2017 Pettenthal Auction GG in its place for me at Rieslingfeier. But Keller’s 2010 Abts Erde was also spectacular in 2019, on par for me with this Singerriedel.

One of the best white wines in my 8 year career working with Peter's portfolio. Just wow!
