a somewhat contrary view about the 2006 vintage in Burgundy & Beaujolais

Some of the NYC people picked up 2006 Chandon-de-Briailles Pernand-Vergelesses les Vergelesses for less than $20. Out here, I picked up 2005 Marchal Bourgogne rouge and Ladoix for $5. When things go bust, they really go bust.

At $5-20 a bottle, vintage schmintage.

Wonder if there is any more board data on this topic since a month ago. I've only a couple of 06s and am still feeling my way into red Burgundy, but a couple of reviewers seem to find merit in the vintage. In particular, John Gilman seems to prefer quite a few 06s wines to their 05 bottlings.

No surprise - the '05s have fruit and tannin. The '06s have tannin. Fruit is John's enemy.

now, now, now - that's not exactly true. He does, I'll admit, sometimes have perverse taste but I like that in a wine critic - it's why I love Claude, e.g.!

By the way, bachelet's 06 gevrey village is a very nice drink.

Hm. This person sounds like he'd get along with Jay Miller.

Funny thing, I had the '06 Tete Julienas once again Saturday night, and I liked it a little bit better than before. Still not a favorite, but it wasn't bad. Maybe you'll like it more than I did.

I have met skraft's Carson; she's for real.

I feel your pain, Brad. Send the wine to me and I will see that it is disposed of discreetly.
