Earlier this week my son had his 15th birthday. Since it was a weekday and we couldn't celebrate all that much, my wife and I had a 2017 Domaine Drouhin's Petite Secondes, which was quite nice, especially at the ~$20 we paid for the bottle.
Tonight we had the actual celebration, including a 2005 Lafarge Volnay 1er Cru. A lovely bottle of wine. Leather and dried flowers on the nose, tasting a bit of earth and tart cherries. Quite a bit of sediment. I loved it and this is definitely in my "drink now" category. My son was "meh" in response to his taste. My wife greatly preferred the previous night's Drouhin.
After dinner we played a bit of pool. In the very first game, my wife ran the table, from the break through the 8-ball. "You know" she said, "that Burgundy was pretty good!"
Context is everything.
