not asking for a jeebus

Jonathan Loesberg

At this time of year, I usually shill for a jeebus in November at which time I attend a program committee meeting of a conference and, since retirement, go to see a couple of shows with Gail. The jeebus is always the highpoint of the weekend. Obviously, there won't be a conference this year, or a program committee meeting, or any live theater, or any jeebuses. I'm just being nostalgic. Sigh. Thanks anyway, all of you.

I won’t be there with you, Jonathan. I did, however, have a 2011 Charvi. CdP the other night that was delicious and ready, but the alcohol did stick out a bit.

Thanks for the thought. I usually avoided bringing CdP to those jeebuses, though, for fear that Jay would arrive with a necklace of garlic to ward away the evll. In continued deference to him, I won't, as usual, bring any CdP to this one, to which none of us will be going. I feel like I'm in the scene in Catch 22 where a character who is paid not to grow corn gets up at the crack of noon to make sure the corn is not growing.

If the alcohol in the 2011 is offputting, try the 2013, which came in at slightly below 14%. Laurent Charvin said to me that it was a great Chateauneuf from the 1980s. For Charvin, in years after 06, the 08s and 11s are my preferred vintages at the moment, though the 09s and 10s are coming along.

Thanks for the detailed input. I’ve got a few of the ‘13s so I’ll take a look at one soon. The alcohol in the ‘11 wasn’t a deal breaker but was noticeable. For whatever reason, this isn’t a problem I usually have with CdP.

We could accommodate virtually via Zoom. (Wines not supplied.)

I'm always up for that. Do you guys try to drink wines in common, or just see what each one shows up with?

We are close enough geographically that we decant wines into little bottles, distribute the bottles through a series of meetings and handoffs, then drink the same wines together on the Zoom.

"Wines not supplied" really means you are too far for pickup/dropoff. G.U.!

We'll miss all of you too.

Maybe one advantage of a zoom without common wine is that Gail and I could drink wine made from that well known grape variety called Rhone without Jay and Jayson fainting dead away.

Sounds like we are converging toward the first (and hopefully last) Loesberg Disorderly “COVID Sucks” Zoom Jeebus with a Rhône theme. I’ll throw out a few dates. Nov 6, 7, or 8?

I have a standing zoom on Friday night with some DC disorderlies, but, other than that, I'm free all day and all night, just about every day and every night.

If they promise to behave, we could invite them one Friday. Special guests sometimes turn up.

Friday November 6 at 8pm ET (and those of you further west could join in when possible)?
