There are two kinds of ignorance (in this context):

I ignore as in I do not look at

I am not exposed to so I do not know it exists

The one requires actions by the agent, the other requires an outside force to prevent the agent's tender eyes from seeing what he does not want to have to ignore.

Unless you are speaking French,and, for all I know, other languages that I do not speak, but not English, to ignore is different from to be ignorant of. I always consider an ignore option an unnecessary externalization of the will (you have to choose to make it operable in the first place). It's much more satisfying to engage in a disdainful refusal to notice, I find.
