Pair of Gripas on consecutive rainy Flower nights
2007 Bernard Gripa Saint-Joseph 13.0%
Lovely aromatics, blackberries, olives, earth. Palate totally in sync, maybe a hint of excess sweetness before food, but balanced afterwards. No sign of oak or any flaw. Most pleasing.
2010 Bernard Gripa Saint-Joseph 13.5%
Sumptuous, elegant aroma, blackberries and tapenade. Less evolved, of course. Finish a little too sweet before food, and for a while after. A little more tannic, don't know if from the vintage or age. No apparent oak. Dense without being heavy. Luxurious to the point where we were asking ourselves, most ungratefully, if it was trying too hard to please. Something odaliscous about it caused a backlash with the more puritanical deputies in the assembly, but the majority passed the motion that it was unabashedly pleasurable without being sycophantic.
