Fonte Canale

Wow, I thought I was aggressive on The Bid tonight but still got spanked. I saw Hanlon throw some bids in. Collectively, is Tiberio Fonte Canale really up there in the first echelon or is there some sort of groupthink going on? I bid high given on low availability but was surprised to see the 2015 750ml go for $49 *before* vig and a 2015 magnum go for $97.

Tiberio = trophy wine.

Hanes = drink more cheap Portuguese wine.

Somewhere in the 40s is probably the wholesale price these days.

I haven't had this wine and am curious about it. I don't anticipate drinking lots of $50 Trebbiano, but I used to like Valentini and would like to try the Fonte Canale. Alas, someone else grabbed these. Such is life. A few bottles of Desvignes Les Impenitents joined my cellar, which is warm comfort.

It’s up there. You might even consider it a bargain in comparison to Valentini and Emidio Pepe.
