    Thanks Steve

Oh goodness, what a story! Grace in adversity, beauty from it. For avoidance of doubt, this was not in any way tertiary, but it had well developed secondary flavors and absolutely no trace of tightness.

    Thanks Steve

This was genuinely happy to be opened, lush and musical and absolutely certain of what it was and wanted to be. I've never opened an ESJ that tasted mature before.

    DC disorderly roll call

Posting here because the jeebus bored seems senescent... We just moved to Falls Church, VA, and will be here for a couple of years. We know approximately no one in the area. Having just put the wines into the vinotemp, I am reminded that it's rather nice to drink it with other people. Can I...

    pruning question

Because I genuinely don't know where else I'd ask, even though I know this place doesn't have much truck with the kind of winery where mechanical pruning is the norm... In a vineyard that uses mechanical pruning, is it common to do a hand pass after the machine goes through?

CWD: Tell us one good thing you drank this week

Julian Haart 1000L 2022 has been my riesling of the summer. Gone off most rosé, but man this riesling. Serious but self-effacing.

    Chenin-Gamay-Silvaner

Totally fair! I guess I was wondering what persuades you to buy them... I've found their recent vintages quite friendly on release, much more so than they were say 10-15 years ago... I guess we're charmed by different things in young Beaujolais...

the dangers of drinking with winzers

Henrik Möbitz is in town for a biochemistry conference, but we're not about to let him get away without a wine seminar. Besides, someone has to uphold Boston's reputation as a world class culinary destination, and the conference caterer sure ain't going to. Laval Cumieres 1er Extra Brut 09...

    Chenin-Gamay-Silvaner

Rahsaan, do you enjoy the Desvignes wines when you taste them within the first year or so after release?

    Importers run wine clubs now?

Generally they work with a friendly retailer, and some importers will hold more than one tier of license.

CWD: What did you drink last night (or whenever)?

Bollinger PN VZ 15 A friend who likes his champagnes rich brought this to dinner, as he has several times in recent years. Like him, I tend to prefer BdN to BdB but this was pushing it. Maybe it was the vintage, maybe it was the high proportion of reserve wines, but this felt rich and round and...

CWD: What did you drink last night (or whenever)?

Laherte Les Empreintes 2016 Somehow, I think this is the first bottle of Empreintes I've sat down to, though I'm no stranger to the estate. Apparently the Chardonnay clone in this is muscaté, and rare? I've not knowingly had wine from said clone before, at any rate. We're on the deck, it's...

CWD: What did you drink last night (or whenever)?

Julian Haart 1000L 2022 On the deck in a Cambridge spring, this bottle just vanishes. It feels somewhere between kab and feinherb, I'm guessing RS is more feinherb and the weight is the famous 2022 dry extract. But why overthink it, I can't remember the last Mosel riesling I enjoyed this much...

TN: Glass After Glass (May 9, 2024)

I'm surprised you didn't find the Buster 22 overripe.
