    Slovene acacia and cherry

I mostly see in Tuscany Oak barrels for Vin Santo, with just some barrels of Chestnut and Cherry; for sure the oldest barrels around are Chestnut, so maybe the more 'traditional.' Does Cherry have a tighter grain than chestnut? I bring this into the States and I always find the nose to have an...

    Cesanese del Piglio

I arciprete that! there's lots to be discovered in Lazio in the hinterlands past Vinitaly.

    Local hero

Ricci dug up all his Cortese and works well, but it's Walter Massa who's been the champion and guru of the Colli Tortonesi.

    Local hero

Ciao Levi, Walter has opened up some bottles from the '70s and '80s this past year. And though they left their dirty jackets, the wine were not disgusting in the least.

Marco De Bartoli, one of the bravest wine pioneers of the past half century, dead

One of my heroes, as well. Un fuoriclasse mondiale, when Sicily was hic sunt leones for interesting wines. What unheralded vision he had.

    Boca

I had a '96 Castello Conti @ Per Bacco in SF a few weeks ago and it was in great form. Great price too. I've been wanting to try Podere ai Valloni, but my sole '97 bottle I bought in Novara was corked. Anyone have experience with this producer?

    Sharing is scaring

I visited him last month and had a line up of wines from him that brought me unabashed delight too. I found them to be shy wines that had me feeling a bit sheepish in trying to find the right rhythm between sloshing them down or focusing on their many details. Besides the Teran, the other...

    NWR: music

Thanks for the link. For a ripping ad infinitum, there's The Disintergration Loops I-IV, which, besides a wacky and literal title, is music where is the 'music is dying.' I've listened to this many a time-zone-warped evening, while savoring the lasts of a bottle of wine from dinner.

    NWR: music

Wine better be well aged, on the cusp of 'a patient etherized upon a table,' for the thanototic drones of Boards of Canada. I could listen to them forever.

    Are you ready...for the awesomeness?

He's sounds like a retired vampire with his echoing and metaphysical 'I'm here.' He's going to discover the has been discovered.

Three recent favorites: Derthona, Lapierre, Briailles

Ciao, We distribute through Metropolis in NY; Regal in CA; Hangtime in MA; then, scattering here and there. I'm in no position to say it's the most interesting white in Piemonte (Almondo Arneis is a contender), but it's one hell of a grape, maybe the best, to munch on during vendemmia; a...

    Massa Vecchia Bianco 2007

I'm not sure Slovenia's an except for the Italian penisula, but zidarich and klinec* could be added to the list. I opened up an '06 klinec malvasia and an 05 last night with some fresh green beans, fava beans and a hunk of pecorino fresco. ciao matteo, sorry I missed you in Boston. ernest...

Donati Camillo Fortana dell'Emilia IGT 2007

Along side the ca' de noci sottobosco (which i love)! Matteo, I enjoy that Lambrusco too; it's got some grippy tannins. But maybe for me the real CdN standout is the Spergola EB. Quatrro Castella's been an unjustly overlooked area for these wines; it's great seeing them on the market.
