Love the Sandlands Cinsault. Beautiful wine, but also a gluggable crowd pleaser.

the new what did u drink tonite thread

1996 Thunder Mountain Bates Ranch Star Ruby RTW This was a happy discovery. Cork was intact; dark purple color with no bricking. Nice Bordeaux style nose with fruit and a touch of eucalyptus. Oak has receded fully and a nice fruit palate remains. Not terrifically long but drinking really well...

Recent Wine TNs, Mostly Natty (Jan-Apr 2025)

I had a bottle of 2022 Jean-Paul & Benoit Droin Chablis over the past 2 nights - similar roundness to what you describe (though the wine is obviously not on par with Dauvissat) that seems more than I remember, with a bit less cut and salinity. Certainly different than the 2019 version in that...

Jim - I've found the same. I have a couple bottles I sent to the back of the queue for a few years' timeout. Dan

The Arnot Roberts Trousseau is definitely one of my favorite trousseaus, especially with a few years in the bottle.

The Gray Lady weighs in on SF dining

I was in SF yesterday and today to visit my parents who live in an assisted living building near Japantown. Went to La Ciccia last night with my brother, sister and brother-in-law who are all locals but had not been back since it was sold. I thought it was quite good - everything we had was...

CWD: What did you drink last night (or whenever)?

2020 Idlewild Lost Hills Ranch Arneis. Carried home from the tasting room in Healdsburg - revisited after opening 2 nights ago. Still a little shy on the nose (it’s young), this is brilliant stuff and the best US produced Arneis I’ve had.

NWR: How mRNA vaccines happened so fast

Every vaccine ever made has caused a few allergic, even anaphylactic, reactions in recipients. The buzz is that the 2 in the UK at least may have been to PEG in the preparation. Speaking personally, my upper arm was a bit unhappy about being converted into a spike protein factory for a day or...

Thanks for the link. Accepting one of these in my deltoid in the near future. Breathtaking accomplishment.
