Anyone want to get together for a Madiran and cassoulet jeebus? Earlier this year a group of wine geeks gathered for an Irouleguy-cassoulet affair at La Sirene, a BYO French joint in lower Manhattan with good cassoulet -- it was a blast.

So far a few of these guys have expressed interest in re-gathering there for an evening of Madiran wines (and Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh, naturally). These now include:

The restaurant can accommodate large parties, and appears fully jeebus friendly. I've made a reservation for 10 people at 7:00pm for the evening of January 19.

If you move the location from Nyc to DC, change the food from cassoulet to bouillabaisse, and change the wine from Madiran to Anything Else, I'm there!

Jan 19 should work.
 
If you're looking to fill seats and would be willing to have someone without any Madiran :( I love the cassoulet at La Sirene. I'd happily provide some dessert wines or whites or sparklers. Or dessert wines and whites and sparklers.
 
I've got plenty of Madirans to share, and was planning on bringing (too) many of them anyway. So yes, come and swill with us. It would be nice to meet you, too.

Well, if I was really going to come, I'd have to leave either the 18th or 19th.

Not sure that I get MLK day off.

Don't build it around me though, just put me on the waiting list.
 
Ok. If others are also flexible and you do want to come up for the event, I'm sure it's no big deal. I just made up the date anyway.
 
Thanks for the invite, but I (a) may not be in town, (b) not only don't own any Madiran but was unaware of its existence until your e-mail and (c) have had a falling out with Jay Miller and refuse to eat with him. Well, that's not exactly true...I'll be in town.

What's with you and obscure SW French wines?
 
I'm silly that way.

Neither familiarity with nor possession of Madiran wines is necessary for attendance - but getting along with Jay Miller likely is. I just wanted an occasion to open the various Madirans I've amassed and try them with a few other people.

BTW, I'm only on HIATUS from the regular bored. I still post here and the secret .sahsha/Politburo bored.
 
So... you are coming?

If we're going to stay with Madiran as a theme throughout, it might be nice to have a dry white or two from Pacherenc du Vic Bilh, which is the white wine producing region of Madiran. If not, then perhaps something from Juranon, Gaillac, etc. Really, though, anything would be welcome.

If red, and not Madiran, then Cahors (Gamot? Cayrou? whatever?) or something.

As for the Madirans, I was thinking of bringing a few (or all?) chosen from the following:

1990 Chateau d'Aydie
1994 Montus Prestige
1997 Montus Prestige
1998 Primo Palatum

I also have several younger Madirans from the 2000s but that may be overkill.
