NY Madiran-cassoulet jeebus, January 19

First they give me a goat cheese tart the size of a Frisbee, now I've got a five-gallon bucket full of duck parts, beans, breadcrumbs and a gallon of duck fat!

Pass the '95 Montus Prestige, the '97 seems a bit cranky now!

Is my coat in anyone's way? Cause I can move it....

Hey, who is this "Seth Hill" guy? He seems familiar, has a kind of Brendan Fraser vibe going on....

The crme brle is "serviceable," I'm told. What's this Mller-Catoir? The demisec riesling in the decanter? It's dark in here, I can't find the bottle...

You need to hang out with Carson a little more!

Duck fat For The Win!

Ooh, wait, they're bringing me my espresso. Keep that Armagnac to yourself, Grossman! I will not be lured!

Ack! Leave me alone, I still have a half-dozen Madirans to get through. You know how slow I am!

Shoot, I dropped my fork. Wait, there's one nobody's using, let me snag that one.

What's up with this weird hipster white that Tse-Wei brought?

Dudes, I gotta get out of here, I have to not work in the morning. Can I get some of this cassoulet wrapped up? Lisa can have duck fat for lunch tomorrow... which way is the E train from here?

wow! all this was going on last night all around me and i had no idea!

i'm a bit tired now. i can't imagine that i have to get out of bed in 35 seconds to go to skurnik... who has a tasting in inauguration day? who has a tasting the morning after a madiran jeebus?

I had a great time. Apparently my head did, too. That Armagnac was a nice touch but ... ouch.

Great cassoulet.

So what wines were there again? I recall these reds:

Chateau Montus Madiran Cuve Prestige 1988 (magnum)
Chateau Montus Madiran Cuve Prestige 1995
Chateau Montus Madiran Cuve Prestige 1997
Chateau Montus Madiran 1995
Primo Palatum Madiran 1998
Chateau d'Aydie Madiran 1990
Berthoumieu Cuve Charles de Batz Madiran 2005
Clos Triguedina "Prince Probus" Cahors 1978
Mas de Daumas Gassac 1985
a corked magnum of 1979 Cahors
some wine from Joe Dressner, very thoughtful, in light of the above corker (Domaine Richaud? I have the cork from the wine, it's sealing the 97 Montus Prestige I brought back home)

and there were some whites:

Domaine Ganevat Savagnin Ouille 2003?
Edmunds St. John Heart of Gold, vintage?
an outta sight Manzanilla sherry, from Jay, thanks!
Muller-Catoir halbtrocken something or other 1992, also from Jay, gorgeous; brilliant field triage performance on the cork by Jeff
some "hipster" white I failed to remember anything about
another wine or two I am forgetting?

and the Armagnac.

Anyway, great time, lots of wine for just nine people. I particularly enjoyed the Chateau d'Aydie (FTW!!), the 1995 regular Montus, the Prince Probus, the sherry, and the Muller-Catoir.

Sorry for not replying sooner, but I rarely check the jeebus board.

I apologize for being a cassoulet-jeebus tease. I was just teasing vlm about jeebus wait-lists. I'd be there if I were in the vicinity.
