Thanks for doing a pre-emptive trial run on the restaurant, Steve! The list does look really intriguing as well.
I'm a sucker for Vermentino, and they even use it to cook! Laurela used to buy my wine at Globe, so I brought her a bottle of Heart of Gold to share the love.( I'd won a medal for it at the Slow Food Golden Glass Event yesterday afternoon.)
There were too many Vermentinos, and Cannonaus to count, on the list. It was pig heaven, I tell ya...

Last time we had a wine dinner at La Ciccia they gave us free corkage as long as we bought at least three bottles from the list. Great deal and they have a great Italian wine list. (Also, for that dinner we were doing an 80's Barolo tasting and Massimo created some special dishes to pair with the wines. I remember a boar dish that was fantastic.)

I called Lorella and asked for a reservation for 12 (their max) on Tuesday, Aug 4, and asked her if they would give us the same corkage arrangement. She said that she would check with Massimo and get back to me tomorrow. Even if they don't agree to exactly the same arrangement, I'm sure they will offer us a good deal. I will let you know as soon as I hear from her.

BTW, we will have to bring stems. What time do you want? 7:30?

Tell her I'll be there, maybe that will help(or not)...

Congrats on the Slow Food Medal, Steve. We finally opened a bottle of HoG (more pig heaven?) last week. Loved the cleanliness and verve of the vermentino.

7:30 works for us, Fred. Thanks, man! I don't think we'll have any problem ordering off that list.
I was thinking of dragging some barolo out there as well for this.

I just got a call from Lorella. After having done several of these wine dinners they have changed their policy and now offer large groups like us 1/2 off corkage for any number of bottles ($12.50/btl instead of $25). She said that she would talk to Massimo again and see if they could do any better. (I told her that you were coming, Steve. Maybe that will help.)

Are you all OK with that or should I push back?

I'm happy with it. They're good people, I want them to be happy, too.

All set. I have a reservation for 12 at La Ciccia on Tues, Aug 4 at 7:30 pm.

Corkage $12.50/btl - one bottle free for every bottle purchased. I suggest we bring mostly reds and buy a few whites from the list. They have a great list of Sardinian (and other Italian) whites.

Please reply if the count changes (currently at 11).

Another suggestion: When I was there I asked Lorella to choose wines for me, and the Cannonau I had was splendid. I think we could buy any color with confidence, and besides, I have a white I want to bring. Just sayin'...

Thanks for setting it up Fred. I'll be bringing something red, probably barolo or barbaresco (either '96 or '97 as I have some and want to see where they are at).
