EPL Season

Don't see anything on intrade, so I'll offer 3 key players (out of 10) leaving Arsenal by close of transfer window, even odds.

Off the top of my head, key players: Fabregas, Nasri, Clichy, Walcott, Wilshere, Sagna, Koscielny, Song, Arshavin, van Persie.

Not sure about Chamakh, Djorou, Rosicky or Squillaci - any of them considered key?

No goalies, funny that.

I think Wenger considers Djourou key.

Also, Chamahk had a pretty good inaugural season in the EPL.

I don't think Arshavin is key. I actually think he needs to move on, not because I don't rate him, but because I don't think Arsenal will ever use him as a focal point for attack. I think that is where he would be most dangerous and I think another club (who don't have Fabregas, Nasri, and Wilshire) would use him that way.

And that's the puzzling thing - if Barca can tick with Pedro, Messi, Xavi and Iniesta in the same team, why can't Arshavin fit in with Fabregas, Nasri and Wilshere? Not that Fabregas is a dead certainty to stay, mind you. If he does go to Barca, VLM, would you then consider Arshavin key?

Ashley Young going to Man U is an interesting one - I'm not convinced he's that good, and I thought they would have been better off trying to get a proper central midfielder first.

I've been wondering about that from the beginning. I guess SAF trusts Carrick and Fletcher, and isn't trying to beat Barcelona, assuming it's hopeless.

and so what's up with Bradley? someone else is going to pick him up ? Fulham ?

I don't think SAF is done quite yet.

Barca is susceptible to pace. Theo scared the shit out of them. That's where Young comes in, IMO.

You can't pass through them, as Arsenal has shown, but you can go over them.

Frankly, I think that is the way you beat them. With good old fashioned English wingers zinging in crosses or breaking against them at pace. None of the back 4 is fast and neither fullback defends particularly well (Abidal is pretty good, I guess).

Don't get me wrong, I don't want Arshavin to leave, but I like him as a player and I don't want him unhappy with a second tier role. He has lost a step and he doesn't have the all around game of Ramsey or Wilshire.

If the midfield is Nasri-Wilshire-Song-Fabregas-Walcott, where does Arshavin fit in? He can ceratinly replace Walcott for many games, but if Walcott improves again this year, which I expect, I really don't want to sacrifice his pace.

Anyone think we should sign Diego Forlan?

I wouldn't be surprised to see Clint leave for a UCL club, just maybe not in the EPL.

I'm not sure where Bradley will end up. His form has not been at it's best in a while. Wherever he goes, he needs PT.

Fulham could use him. Everton would be a good landing spot as well.

If Varane is as good as they say he is, I am disappointed that Wenger had not scouted him before others did.

What do you guys think? Might be a good thing for Arsenal as well?

Honestly, I am not sure.

he did not have a great year. Plus the injuries.

Two years ago though, Arsenal had its spineless moments which he alone would turn around.

Contrary to poplar opinion, I think we have some character in the squad with Fabragas, van Persie, Wilshire emerging, and others becoming more vocal.

Where we lack it is in the back since Gallas left. I do think Vermaelen could be an authority figure in the back, but we really could use a keeper with a big name and personality. Shit, even Tim Howard would be worth and extra 5-7 points a season.

I am very impressed with Clichy's speed and certain skills, but I would not be sorry to see him go on account of what's being discussed here.

I've always been a fan and his speed is really important against certain opponents. I'm OK with him leaving IFF we think that Gibbs is ready to step in. I'm not sure of that.

I think we sign him to a new contract with the understanding that if Real come calling next summer, we'll sell (and his value will be higher with a longer contract).

Nasri seemed to come into his own with Fabregas resting at the beginning of the season.

I'm still not certain that Clichy and Fabregas will go. I remember the Vierra and Henry merry-go-round that went on for years.
