EPL Season

After the plunge in the Championship table, the firing of Keane, and the thrashing at Chelsea, a victory feels pretty good. Even though I'd rather it have been any premiership team other than Arsenal (my second favorite team) it's the little things...

i'm a sucker for the big underdog, so i find it hard to begrudge Ipswich Town a victory, especially when from all accounts they played the better game. I didn't see the game.

I agree Song had a nice game yesterday; Wilshere, too. RvP is getting better every game. Djourou, who has been good lately, and Eboue, well, not so much. Defensive help still needed.

Watched Barca play Malaga this afternoon. Remind me again why they need Fabregas? To play the last 20 mins. against sides already beaten 4-1?

plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose.

if it all goes true to form, we will soon be talking excitedly about how the arse is finally about to come good and win big time. at which point some part of r.v.p. will go r.i.p., cesc will maim himself making a stupid tackle when the team is 5-0 up and there's 2 minutes to go, and i will once again find myself treading wearily down to the fatcave to find something to drown my sorrows in.

fb. (ever the optimist.)

the biggest mistake is to let chamakh fall out of rhythm while rvp is on form

he is much more than an insurance policy

in fact, i'd still play him ahead of rvp against the big 5 and maybe in UCL as well

because games get ugly, sooner or later

I don't understand not playing Chamakh more, either.

Denilson was atrocious, again, today and Arshavin still looks poised to score four times a game but has the yips whenever kicking the ball towards the goal. And now nasri has a hamstring injury. Shit.

But the worst is time runs very short on acquiring a center back. It wouldn't take spending much to upgrade over Squillaci and his new back-up Song playing out of position. It's hard to believe there would no attempt at an upgrade.

didn't see the game.
What was wrong with Denilson - reactive rather than proactive on loose balls in midfield, again ?

How did you know? And then just lazily sticking a leg out as his "reactive remedy" for a lost ball instead of actually tackling appropriately.

He looks lost out there at times, like he has no idea what he is supposed to be doing or maybe just doesn't care that much if defensive effort is involved, which I find hard to believe.

It was a pretty uninspiring performance against Huddersfield. They were fortunate to win.

I wonder what the top of the table will look like, 3 hours from now.

The event that really concerns me is a potential summer transfer of a certain german player to a certain english club.

Particularly considering where that player would NOT be going then.

Who are you worried about? Ozil was the prize.

I am totally not in the mood for ManU to be set in goals for the next 12 years, this easily.
Bayern may have missed their chance.

It's early in the season, but it's a close race between Diaby and Wenger for idiot of the year award. I am leaning towards the latter.

Arsene seems to have locked up the race in February. But the FSC commentators and Dowd deserve special commendations.

I fear for the safety of fatboy's tv.

I may have to take a futbol watching hiatus.

What concerns me more than Nasri's injury at the moment is Sagna's suspension.

Barca plays unbalanced to the right with the left back usually staying home. Playing Eboue doesn't strike me as a huge issue. Missing Clichy, as we remember from last year, and leaving the left exposed, is a much bigger deal. Nasri is a game changer. Having him even on the bench will be really important.

Agree.

But I was more concerned about lacking the pressure which Sagna provides going forward on that side.

In addition, Eboue will wander forward sooner or later (just try stopping him). As such, there may be some very uncomfortable loss of possession situations in midfield; Barca is very quick to react.

When you have to play a nearly perfect game, everything counts.

Let's not forget they are having to play Abidal as a centerback.

If Nasri can't play, that little Russian better show up. I think he will.

I also think, like last year, that using Theo to get behind the (relatively) slow and (super) high Barca back line could be the key to victory.

I just wanted to quote myself to make sure you read it.
