EPL Season

I don't really think ManU is that much better than us.

That sale paid for Cazorla and Podolski. Maybe there are one or two more coming...

Read the Dempsey rumor in the Gaurdian this AM. I'd love an Arsenal Dempsey #23 jersey!

Your reds picked up some nice Swans...

Indeed.

I am worried by how predictable Gervinho is , to any well organized defense. Good energy this time, but he commits so early to any move, they know exactly when he is no longer going to pass.

Yeah, but they can't do much about it. He doesn't give away possession the way Theo often does. I'm pretty bullish on what Gervihno will bring this season. Even if you know what he is going to do, you still have to cope with his pace and strength.

Cazorla is the shit.

I thought Mertesacker had a nice game. Tidy. His positional awareness allows Vermalen to move forward.

Jenkinsen wasn't terrible, but Sagna can't get back soon enough for me.

I'm working on an analysis of how to replace RvP goals.

Take really hard shots at the goalies so that the ball refracts into Podolski's path, taking into account Podolski's constant speed and direction.

I rewatched the opening 30 minutes over lunch and am doubly sure that you are wrong about Gervihno.

I want to temper my enthusiasm for Mertesacker as well. What I took to be Vermaelen mistakes leading to chances for Sunderland may have been Mertesacker, at least in part. It was probably the recency effect since he looked good in the second half.

Diaby looks better on a second viewing. Podolski worse. Confused and out of sync.

You are way ahead of me. I am still rewatching parts of 1982 world cup over lunch.

Spoiler: Karl-Heinz Rummenigge scores in extra time to send them past France.

Good grief, 'Pool were terrible. And RvP scores a hat-trick (including injury time winner) for Man U? What a shit weekend.

Seeing RvP in a ManU jersey makes me sick to my stomach. Honestly, I really can't wait for his ankle to shatter. I'm hoping while on International duty, the way it usually happened for us.

I was impressed with little Joe Allen, he looks like an English (Welsh?) Xavi.

Gerrard looks out of place and WTF is going on with Reina? I considered him one of the best 2 or 3 keepers in the EPL and at the top of his game, was only below Buffon and Casillas. Where did his head go?

Disappointing showing by the Ox, but Cazorla was fantastic and Poldo put in a shift attempting to play some D. Giroud missed another that should have at least been on frame, if not in the net. His movement and strength looked good though, even if his link up play was a bit off.

Diaby, and I already regret writing this, showed glimpses of Vieira storming down the pitch. As usual, the interesting thing about him is his ability to hold onto the ball in traffic and make a quick change of pace, no matter how languid it looks.

Arteta didn't do any hiding yesterday, did he FB. Give credit where due.

Color me an optimistic Gooner.

I would only add that Gibbs needs to start crossing either faster or better, or both.
Yeah, Arteta was probably even better than we realize watching on TV.

His lanky, awkward runs, his height, and strange control and movement just aren't comparable to anyone I can think of. He doesn't disrupt the team the way a Gerrard does, but he can mess up the timing for those around him, probably why fb thought he looked best off the bench.

With his size and types of skills, if he and been black (like Diaby, an eerily similar player, IMO), he would have been forced into more of a defensive midfield role ("the new Viera").

exactly. the fact that muller has no presence on the ball, little awareness of the players around him and poor close control is irrelevant.

thankfully, he is white and german, and has friends in high places. and so us right thinking folks can still sleep sound in our belief that he is a footballing genius.

It really takes a Mueller to score two goals + one assist and win top of the game rating honors, given how sloppy he was against Stuttgart. Well, that people who rate these games don't know shit goes without saying. But there are many fine young players with plenty of friends in high places, and we don't even need to go very far from the Emirates to find them, and yet where is the beef?

It's a dirty job.

Do some of you need a fucking IM attached to WD ?
There is a distinction between the two. I hope.
