Jeebus in NY April 13

Is there a theme? Are people still reading this? Will there be a crew from NY on a specific PATH train (time?) that I should try to meet up with? Inquiring minds need to know.

Let's start with 'Wines that don't suck'.

Others may know better from previous experiences, but I'm looking at the Soul Flavors menu and thinking that something with r.s. will go well for my contribution.

all of the following dishes are good and wine friendly with a variety of wines:

crab cake
fried chicken
lamb pot pie (a lamb shank with a round of puff pastry)
boneless beef rib

avoid the pork ribs (hot and sweet), chicken with dumplings (delicious but spicy)

I usually find the fish selections underwhelming.

Salads are all very good. I also like the beer battered chicken wings.

Most of the sides disappoint though the sauteed spinach is a perfectly acceptable rendition.

I've got a little of everything at home now: French, Italian, Spanish. As the visitor, got any prefs?

Obviously not.

I will probably start at WTC so maybe the 6:42. sched

I was asking about theme, more or less to determine what I should bring. In deference to Jay, I will avoid Southern Rhones. I don't think I have a single Spanish wine. Lots of kinds of French, though.

My current plans are to bring a Musar, a Castellare Chianti and a Tondonia Rosado. Try and make a theme of that why don't you?

And we're hoping for a Sancerre from Joe of course.

I have a tooth extraction the day before (seriously). Had hoped to have that happen earlier this week. Will discuss with doc when visit.

When I said that getting an answer from you was like getting a tooth pulled I didn't mean for you to take it literally!

Good luck, feel free wait until Friday afternoon to let us know if you're up for it.

Wines with VA ?
We could do an SFJoe redneck theme--missing teeth and narcotics?

I've found the crab cake pretty poor. Mostly breading. The time I had the beef rib, it was too sweet, but that's my problem with most of the food there and why I think the place is lousy for jeebi, not be be a kill joy, or anything. Have not tried the lamb pot pie. The Fried chicken is probably the best dish there, but it's on par with the fried chicken I can get across the street at Food Emporium and isn't exactly red friendly, mostly sparkler friendly.

I'd suggest a theme of wines you want to drink with friends that you don't mind if they clash with the food.

How did we end up on this path.
Scroll up a bit. Basically, no one offered an opinion so Jay plunked for something convenient to him (as well as inexpensive and good).

We've still got 40 hours or so till dinner. Lots of time to change the plans.

I'm still fine with Joisey and wonder if Madame Claude is available at this late hour for the size of our group on a Friday night? Much better food, imo, still budget conscious and certainly much more wine friendly, though I think Jay mentioned that it may not be as convenient for folks to get to.

If it's a big pain the ass, we can certainly stay with Soul Flavors, afterall, it's more about the people, but I honestly feel it makes the Minetta of old look like a four star establishment. Well, maybe at least three star.

Madame Claude Cafe.
