Southern Jeeb - IS IT TIME TO TRY AGAIN?

I think I am going to a wedding in Chicago that weekend, so I would have to miss it, but don't let me stop you if that works for a majority of the group.

So, do we want to shoot for October 3-4?

I haven't chimed in here yet, but I'm happy to host a dinner at my place on Saturday October 3 (it is about ½ hour from RDU for those coming in for the weekend; I'm in northern Chatham County, NC). There should still be peppers and eggplant in the garden, but the rest would be from the local Carrboro farmers' market. Weather permitting (yup, it should still be pretty warm), we could eat outside . . .

If Slaton is still lurking, he's welcome too, along with a SF contingent.

That certainly sounds good to me. (And early October still does have much to offer in the area, including tomatoes)

FWIW, most likely I would not be able to make a dinner that Friday.

Am not sure if the plan is still for a multi-event weekend. Of course my attendance at all events would not be required. Am looking forward to whatever gets going.

The weekend of Oct. 2-4 works for me, as does Oct 30 - Nov 1. Assuming we are still planning a weekend of events (which I support), I'll probably be flying in late afternoon or evening on Friday and flying back Sunday evening, so for Sunday's events, earlier is probably better for me.

Thanks Mark! Would really like to have come along but I'll be in Madrid (working, alas) in early October.

Who is still thinking that Oct. 2-4 would be a good weekend?

The rest of October is terrible.

I have SAB on Monday October 5th, but as long as I start sobering up sometime Sunday afternoon, I should be OK.

I've already penciled in the dinner for Saturday Oct 3. Works well for me and other Oct weekends are bad. But then I have more flexibility and am not one who needs airplane tickets.

If we're gonna do this, I guess we need to plan.

Friday night October 2nd, dinner at Vin Rouge with a theme around Muscadet. I've got some 3L and 1.5Ls of Clisson and 4. Oysters should be good. They also do good charcuterie, so I figured the red part could be open.

Saturday October 3rd, we could do a barbecue outing to Allen & Sons ro we could get barbecue and bring to my house so we can drink (no booze at legit barbercue joints).

Dinner at Rue Cler focusing on the wines of Baudry and Clos Rougeard. We can try to put together some sort of interesting format, or we can just see what folks bring.

Also, check the list.

Plenty of places for Sunday brunch if that is what people want to do.

We could re-shuffle and do Mateo on Friday night and then an oyster and Muscadet brunch on Sunday.

Let's get a head count.

Nathan, that sounds like a good plan to me. I can be there Friday night through brunch on Sunday, and I'm fine with oysters and Muscadet at either end of the weekend.

I'm pretty much only available Saturday night, can't do Friday or Sunday.

But whatever happens on Saturday, I'll be there.

I think it's worth a shot.

Me too. I wonder if anyone else thinks so.

I am due for a visit to my folks in Chapel Hill. I was thinking 2d or 3d weekend in April....

Kirk, thew weekend of the 9th or 16th sounds like a good idea to me. I'm not available the next weekend of the 23rd.

And it is also an amazing time of year down here.

I'm definite for 4/14-18. I'll spend some of that with my folks, but should be free to Jeeb as well.
If we can work out stuff like glassware, we could even do something at their house. No charcoal grill there, but a gas grill and plenty of outdoor space.
