So how are people feeling about March 10-11? I am looking into also putting together an old nebbiolo dinner at Rue Cler that week with Jamie Wolff from Chambers coming down.

Would people be interested in that? I need to schedule with him soon.

I think I'm available that weekend.

Would you or other interested folks be able to make a dinner on Thursday or should I schedule it for Friday?

Glad to see this coming together. I saw Jamie in Nyc before Christmas and was excited to hear about his potential participation. I didn't realize it would be for a public dinner at RC, but that makes sense.

Regardless, all those dates work for me, so count me in for any combo of Thurs March 8, Fri 9th, Sat 10th.

I asked Jamie if the 9th would work for him. He's on vacation (I think) and I haven't heard back.

I'll make some seats open to the public depending on WD participation. I doubt 20 people will show.

March 10-11 is probably workable for me. But not a Thursday dinner. It would be great if the main event could be on Saturday, with a hope and intent to make it there in time for dinner on Friday as well.

I haven't heard back from Jamie about March 9th. Should we still hold that weekend for Southern Jeebus? It works well for me.

Well I'm local so probably one of the more flexible folks. But it seems to me that if we already have several folks on board for a date, it's probably easier to keep that.

BTW, I'm looking forward to your Boillot presentation next week. Nice work slipping in an 05.

OK, just got confirmation from Jamie for Friday the 9th. So it's in ink.

What sort of themes do we want to explore for the rest of the weekend?

Please let me know if you will be able to attend dinner on Friday. I will fill out seats with local friends first then maybe open it up to Rue Cler customers.

Count me in for Friday. For Saturday, I still have a lot of mid-1990s Loires burning a hole in my pocket as well as a 1997 Bongran with your name on it. Or we can just have people bring something that interests them.

At this point I'm strongly considering driving, so something tame and early in the day Sunday is an option for me, but probably not anything that runs late into the afternoon or evening.

It'd be easier for me to make on a Friday, but you shouldn't set your plans around my schedule since I'll be iffy for a while.

I should be in for both Friday and Saturday and just reserved a hotel room.

For Friday, I will need to figure out the mechanics of getting old Nebbiolo to the dinner without disturbing the sediment. Perhaps I should double decant before getting in the car and driving down? The drive is about four hours if traffic is good (which is not safe to assume on a Friday afternoon), and I will leave some time to check in to the hotel and make my way to the restaurant, so we could easily be talking six or more hours after double decanting. I was thinking about a 1961 G. Mascarello Barbaresco. Too risky for a six-hour double decant?

At the last Southern Jeebus, Nathan and I had a casual BBQ lunch on Saturday, accompanied by 2010 Coudert Griffe du Marquis. Since we anticipate another big dinner Saturday night, some restraint at lunch is needed, but I would suggest/request a repeat of that with, say, Touraine and/or Beaujolais (and BBQ!) on Saturday. I was thinking Clos Roche Blanche, Baudry, or something along those lines, since Nathan had separately requested a bottle of 2005 CRB Cot. But I can adjust depending on what the group would like to do.

Since I assume we will largely stay on theme Friday night at the old Nebbiolo dinner, perhaps Saturday night should be fairly open, giving people a chance to bring a great bottle or two that they are excited to share. I am likely to bring Burgundy, Northern Rhone, Clos Rougeard, old Huet, or something along those lines. We can talk specifics at some point.

I will be driving home on Sunday and, with a four-hour drive ahead, I do not plan to drink any wine that day and will likely head out shortly after breakfast.

Michael, which hotel are you staying at? I may try to stay at the same place to facilitate shared transportation.

On the old Nebbiolo dinner, I don't have much to contribute as my only really old bottle (a 1968) is committed to a 50th birthday dinner with a group of people born in 1968. I do have a few options from 1988 and 1990, though, and would probably double decant before my six hour drive.

I like the idea of CRB, Loire CF, and Beaujolais with BBQ for Saturday lunch and keeping things open for Saturday night.

Nathan can verify but my understanding was that Jamie would be sending (in advance) a bunch of the old nebbiolo wines and therefore there would be a participation fee to cover those costs.
