I like the idea of picking up BBQ so we can drink with it. I may be adding one to the list, as my friend Eric Brown (proprietor of the now-defunct Le Caveau) has expressed an interest in coming and is trying to confirm if he is free that weekend.

That's great. Please confirm ASAP because we only have a limited number of seats available for Friday night (we only have 1 bottle of each wine).

Unfortunately Eric has a conflict and can’t make it.

Thanks, Mike.

So, I got the OK for lunch Saturday.

So, the schedule is:

Friday Barolo dinner with Jamie at Rue Cler (set menu):
Michael Lewis
Mike Evans
Rahsaan Maxwell
Jamie Wolff
and 8 locals including my wife and I.

Saturday barbecue lunch:
Michael Lewis
Mike Evans
Jamie Wolff
6 locals including my wife and I.

Saturday anything goes Jeebus at Rue Cler:
Michael Lewis
Mike Evans
Rahsaan Maxwell
Jamie Wolff
and ? locals...

Sunday no plans

Does this sound good to folks?

That plan sounds great to me, and yes, I am driving to Durham (although, while I am sure it will be worth it, I am not particularly looking forward to the 4+ hour drive on Friday and again on Sunday).

I’m driving as well. As little as I’m looking forward to a 6 hour drive each way, it is still less painful than flying, particularly when packing wine. Every time I fly, it seems that the radius of my drive vs. fly zone gets larger.

Yep. We have seriously considered driving to NYC...

If either of you change your mind, you are welcome to ship wine and I'll hold it in the cellar for your arrival.

We are at T-minus one week until the revival of the Southern Jeeb. Decision time. My current plan is as follows (working backward).

For Saturday dinner (Rue Cler):
2006 Clos Rougeard Les Poyeux
2005 Cecile Tremblay Chambolle Les Feusselottes
2002 Huet Petillant Reserve

For Saturday lunch (Nathan's):
1999 Clos Rougeard l'Orphelin rose
2005 Clos Roche Blanche Cuvee Cot

I reserve the right to bring a bottle of Champagne or 1989 Pinon to supplement Friday's festivities (and/or sub in for any off bottles on Saturday).

Well, I'm ready!

I will admit to some jealousy over missing the Rougeard rose at Saturday lunch. But there is a lot of good wine on deck for the entire weekend, no matter how you divide it.

I'm still planning on the rieslings for Saturday evening. But will see everyone Friday night anyway.

Oh, I can bring it to dinner. I forgot you were missing lunch. I'll bring something else to lunch.

Hey, I won't object! Thanks. That is a particularly rare wine that I'd be curious to taste. But I know there are a lot of moving pieces to this weekend, so no (major) pressure!

It is a nearly 20-year-old rose. I've got my doubts about how well it will show, but a Disorderly crowd seems like the right audience in any case. There will be plenty of other wines if it doesn't show well, so it is a good opportunity to try it.

Here is my updated, updated current list.

Saturday dinner (Rue Cler):
1997 Domaine de la Bongran Macon Clessé Cuvée Tradition Sélection E.J. Thévenet

1995 Denis Touraine-Azay-le-Rideau Sec

1997 Domaine Filliatreau Saumur-Champigny Cuvée Buster Vieilles Vignes

1996 Pierre-Jacques Druet Bourgueil Vaumoreau

Saturday lunch (BBQ):
1999 Franck Peillot Roussette du Bugey Altesse de Montagnieu

1997 CRB Côt (I can’t seem to find the box with most of my remaining 1998s)

1998 Coudert Fleurie Clos de la Roilette Cuvée Tardive

1996 Joël Taluau Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil Vieilles Vignes

So much for taking it easy at lunch!

I suppose we can bring the leftovers to dinner.

We don’t have to open everything, I’ve just had a very hard time narrowing down the list of what to bring and would rather have too many options than too few.

OK. Tomorrow starts at 8.

We will start antipasta with some Champagne, from Rue or if anyone has stuff they want to open.

4 courses with flights of 3 vintages each.

Rinaldi Brunate La Coste:
Flight 1: 1982, 1985, 1990,
Flight 2: 1994, 1995, 1996,
Flight 3: 1998, 2000, 2002,
Flight 4: 2006, 2007, 2008

Cheese course. I like white wine with cheese, particularly chenin blanc.

Saturday, barbecue and fried chicken + Southern sides my place at 1 PM.

Saturday dinner with standard Rue Cler menu BYO at 8:30.

Nice lineup. Maybe I should bring the 1995 Denis tomorrow night to go with the cheese course instead of bringing it Saturday night? I may throw another aged Chenin in the box as well a backup.

Also, should I shift the Bongran to Saturday lunch to pair with the fried chicken and move the Peillot to Saturday night? I can add a 2000 Clos des Briords to the mix as well.

Do we need a dessert wine for Friday or Saturday?

Have fun, y'all! I wish I could be there to join you, but instead will be ferrying some 8th graders to Terre Haute for a state math competition. I hope someone will be able to post notes about some of the festivities so that I can at least enjoy vicariously.

Mark Lipton

Sounds a great time and possibly even worth a 12-hour drive! Waiting the 2nd and 3rd go round of notes.
