At this point Pete I am going to volunteer my services as a proofreader for your mashups in French or German, simply to spare my eyes the inevitable mess.

Bill, like you, I can (reluctantly?) overlook the menu errata and gladly enjoy what's served.

For the record, the Ramonet Batard-Montrachet was superb, easily the wine of the night on my card. Fortunately, I got extra pours and even (horrors?) visited it with the meat courses.

Well there is always the option of posting actual wine content (with room for digressions as needed), instead of just images of these nonsense menus.

So you would care under certain conditons? I could care less is bad enough, but this formulation is hardly an improvement.

They don’t care that Pete isn’t responsible - many people here can’t wait to give him grief. I have never understood that.

I think you understand. This board is full of people (including yourself) who care a lot about details. When someone posts such monstrosities, it grates.

Not to mention the fact that the 'menus' offer nothing (other than fodder for the grief) to this wine board. If he posted notes about the high-status wines he drinks, that would be a contribution. Instead, he just copypastes a nonsense menu, which requires no effort and thereby functions as a drive-by troll.

Actually, this may be my fault.
When Pete first started posting it was about these dinners and his pictures/comments/notes were extensive. So I asked if he could please be a little more succinct.
I think maybe he went farther than I had envisioned but, it has become his way of generating responses and I have ceased caring that it wasn’t exactly what I had in mind.
I have become used to it. And despite the menu mistakes, comfortably so.
Mea culpa.
 
if any of the menus posted by pete are disorderly, i have not seen them.

how the regular trumpeting of doggerel menus of crown jewels fits into the interests of disorderlies escapes me. (as do many other things.)
 
Jim, your contributions to this board are legion and much appreciated. You are in NO way to blame for anything that is perceived here by some to be negative.

Maureen, you would have loved the Ramonet Batard '13...the Drouhin Echezeaux '08 perhaps not so much. A number of people there and elsewhere like the Drouhin more than I did as I found it a bit hard and ungiving. I wondered if the Drouhin had the right components and balance to "come around". I suspect I'm in the minority.

Of course, I loved having the extra pours of Batard with dinner, plus walking around and visiting while toting and drinking it.

Pete— There is a middle ground here. Jim posts short but evocative notes on all the wines he drinks. You could consider doing the same for these dinners you normally post no initial comments about.
 
Jayson, thanks. Tried early on and no go here. I don't really care to try again.

Occasional quibbles about the composition along with me always trying to respond to the wine comments/questions, if any, make for a better board feel (for me at least). Bill's suggestion has merit for the naysayers here.

On the other hand, Jim is a polished wordsmith with an educated and refined palate.

I don't like bullying but this place has never been a Quaker meeting. Remember our (former) fearless leader Joe Dressner. Much more than hyperbole! And is the board better these days.
