93 Montille Champans

Ah, I wish. I do have a '93 Lafon Volnay I've been meaning to try, but haven't found an occasion yet.

Had the 93 d'Angerville Champans back in October and it was fun but probably would have been better off waiting.

Doesn't matter, won't be very good, IME.

I'd go ahead and crack the de Montille. Why not?

I gotta buy it first :)

Saw a few for $50 locally - and the shop has good provenance usually.

It's gotta be ready to roll though right?

Maybe, who knows? 1988s from de Montille are great now. I'd bet that the 1993s might be starting to be approachable. It's probably cooked though. Give it a shot.

See how much better this worked than the Shafer as a first post?

Peter, I hope you don't become another statistic like Mike.

Montille 93s are not remotely ready in my experience, really not fun to drink, but I don't doubt that the whole range will be great.

I'd be curious enough to give it a stab. Have you tried any recently? Even though they are 5 years younger (and a different vintage), I was astounded at how open the 1988s have been.

I love this site - tough to read, but like the back n forth.

Tom are you saying the range due to the vintage? What would your expectations be on timing for popping one?

Keep in mind that Tom is one that likes his Burgundies on the older side.

The "range" because de Montille has excellent vineyards and exceedingly competent winemaking.

My guess is he would say to wait another 7 to 10 years.

Answering for others is another proud tradition of Wine Disorder.

I'm afraid you're probably right. It's not something I'd seek out at this point, but I have had it for awhile and haven't touched any of the (too few) 1993s I picked up over the years.
