Just a beer. May have had a little too much last night. I did end the evening with a 2004 heinrich Mayr Nusserhof Sudtirol Lagrein that I thought was good, but my wife was smitten with.

Me, it was '07 Chignin-Bergeron "Les Terrasses" from the ubiquitous Quenard. Wow. A honey of a wine, with (you will kindly excuse the expression) echoes of Narcissus... and that's just the nose!!!

And, happy as I was about the whole thing, I found the whole Inauguration-and-related-parties thing curiously unfunky, all things considered. Beyonc should stay away from Etta James' material. And Etta James could have sung. Would have been nice.

And don't get me started on the "hip hop". All they could come up with was Kanye West and will-i-am? Haven't they heard W-Tip is back?

There's an "Andrew Jackson Steakhouse" just around the corner from my place of work here in sunny Santo Domingo. Then again, there's also a "Hitler Driving School". In fact, I once had a tailor named Mussolini, but he prefered to be called "Muso". It's only a matter of time before someone names something after Mr. Bush.

This Caribbean life is very picturesque...
