Hmmm... I just downloaded and opened both files using Firefox on a Mac. Both files opened up fine in their respective applications. One thing I noted in the Firefox dialogue: it had a "File Type" menu that was set to JPEG and which I changed to "All Types." I have no idea if there is any difference in outcome, but that might be something to look at.
