Several Auslese GK and most of the Eiswein, especially at auction just blow you mind away.

Btw at the auction last year Van Voxlem came close or on top (I can't remember) to Muller's Spat...

I paid about $8 for it, so even though my bottle wasn't up to Claude's, I think it probably lived up to the price.

did you buy it from one of those guys with all the nice Rolex watches while in NYC? That may explain the problem, as well as the price!

Well, Martignetti Liquors. Is that better or worse?

Jim,

Go see the guys on Folsom St. They will hook you up. It's owned by the same guy as Huet. Good stuff.

Folsom St. sounds like San Fran; yes?
Best, Jim

The boys at Terroir are big supporters.

I got a chance to taste through the current releases as well as some samples and an older wine or two at the Loire Salon this year. I was very intrigued by what they have going on. I'm sure this is available to David and Jamie as well.

It doesn't count if they blow your bank account away at the same time.

Hype, yes. Price - not so sure. But the 05 Scharzhofberger Auction Spatlese is one of the most brilliant wines I've ever tasted.

There were only a few '07 wines from Egon Muller available at his New York distributor tasting some time ago. I was surprised by how unappealing what was shown turned out to be. After being so impressed with Muller in 2005, and even in 2003, 2007 seemed like a measly showing for the grand name of the Saar. Perhaps the wines need time.

ColderKirlyudvar 2005 Tokaji Sec (Hungary) Broad, waxy, and complicated. Theres a certain fatness here, but its a dry fat, expressed more as lingering tactility than plushness. Hues and tones range from brown to tan with streaks of grey, and theres a hefty dash of mineral salt to the finish. This is awfully good. (5/09)

Tokaji, sec?
'Never heard of it.
What else can you tell me about this genre?
Best, Jim

as I recall Don Rice referred to this wine as .01 Puttonyos
