2005 Texier Chateauneuf de Pape Blanc

Started out a bit simple but as it aired out developed a lovely creaminess, depth and spice. Went well with fireworks, not as good with caramelized onion tart (but I had no Alsatians on hand).

We had Pallus 2005 Chinon "Pensees de Pallus" with grill food, cheeses, salads. Very intense wine: lots of color, extract, tannins, vegetal. Good finish but kinda tough to like now.

were you able to see any of the fireworks this year (since they were on the Hudson)?

Had front row seats: Gerry Kaplan has an apartment on the 37th floor of a building on 43rd St and 11th Ave. He has a west-facing balcony. Huzzah!

Hey Jeff is that you just left of center, about 37 floors up? I thought I spotted you!

I don't recall any matchstickiness, but I am not the most sensitive person to sulfur in wine. I didn't care much for the wine; maybe some time will make it more graceful.

How about the color of the wine? Was it showing sparkling lights?
