It's Summer, Show Me Some Skin!!!

Come on people. We need a quick word on how epic the orangeness was this evening at Convivio.

Levi, sorry I didn't see your post earlier but everything I've read says malvasia istriana in the Kaplja.

I am exhausted.

Whew.

The Radikon/Gravner leg of the Tour really took the wind out of me. I almost didn't make it to the finish.

I have commisioned Orange Jerseys for all of those who made it through to the Scholium Project! Please email lifeoforange@world.com with your size information and shipping preference.

It was an amazing evening. Thanks to all of those who contributed such phenomenal wines, and for being there to soak them up.

It's an Orange World After All.

too exhausted right now for any meaningful recaps. but, a wholehearted thanks to levi for putting together an evening that was at the same time interesting, educational and greatly enjoyable! bravo!

Or, I could go next door to the bookstore and get you all the orange jerseys you wanted, but they would have 'Syracuse' plastered on them. Gee, I miss all the fun!
Sounds like you guys and gals had a great time!

Fascinating tasting. It certainly put paid to any notion that "all orange wines taste alike". A huge range of styles, flavor profiles and quality.

An amazing event, most skillfully executed by Levi and his merry band.

We were just a little too successful in gathering wines, I would say.

To the curious... By my count, there were 37 wines available, of which 35 were orange. (Unless the Biancara "Taibane" is not?)

To Levi and Convivio... Thank you, thank you, thank you!

PS. Thor promises to post in a day or two.

Levi, that was a tour de force. Genius. Also, I will note, the first hangover I've had in several years. Obviously, I'm doing something wrong.

On a food note, I'm sure chef wondered why my plate kept on going back full to the kitchen, food was attention getting but this red head with ADD was having a hard time keeping the wines straight. A losing battle.

Note: shitakes are one of the hardest mushrooms to pair with anything other than champagne or sparkling dry chenin. the mushrooms became electrified in my mouth. Interesting. Oh, I'd do it again, maybe i'll learn to love it as I have lime pickle and bitter melon.

I also want to thank my table mates (Thor, Jeff and the 'other' Jay) for putting up with my initial nervousness, resulting in my mistaking a napkin for a plate. Good move, Alice, if I say so myself. I think that's why they kicked me out of Boston.

Just a note on The Frank C.-- shocking. It was a whispering jumping bean of a wine. The 2006 Notte, forever has my heart.

Sounds interesting. Would like to hear more about that.

That was awesome. Stunning. Thanks so much, Levi. You deserve an alternate universe version of the dinner where you can sit and enjoy.

Notes are about 80% done (I slept too long on the train), but we're in guest hell at the moment and I'll need another day to finish them. I had a wicked headache, though none of the other hangover symptoms, this morning. Blame the tannin? Sure, why not?

Jay's right: the whole notion that the wines taste alike was really shown to be nonsense. Also the suspicion that they don't age was at least legitimately questioned, if not definitively decided.

I'm very, very worried about Nathan's blogging fire. I see what's happened to Jeremy Parzen post-Tracie B., and I fear the same will happen to him post-Vin, etc.

Alice, as noted, I didn't say anything about you putting food on your folded napkin, so the revelation and subsequent opprobrium are all on you. (emoticon, should it be allowed at some future point, goes here)

Just so we can get the disagreement flowing -- and there will be much, I feel, with this cohort of wines -- I hated the '06'07 Ca' de Noci. Hated it. Stale paper with no life. And the MunJebel 4 had no finish.

Jeff, I have 36/34 (total wines, orange wines). What did I miss? You said 36 last night, FYI.

Larry, fuck you. Affectionately, I mean.

It's all about the hype. I guarantee the feature will disappoint. Convoluted plot, no character development.

A video of the evening's festivities has been made public!

The Visible Spectrum of Orange: One Group's Attempt at a Colorful Representation - NYC 2009

A big thank you to Zeb Space for his patient film work!

A thank you also to Kevin Mck for his astute textural description, heard on the audio track.

Don't miss the Alice F. cameo!

Sounds like the 07 to me.

Did too!

Hm. Well, my writing is almost done and I definitely have 37/35. Did you, perhaps, miss the Kisi, the Lunar, or the third Vodopivec?

Update: I updated the list, above.
