Redux on the stereo

After replacing the receiver with the Naim amp + preamp, we suddenly found ourselves bereft without NPR. A trip to our local vintage gear place (Hawthorne, where I got the Naim stuff) remedied that - a gloriously mint 1977 Pioneer TX 8500 II tuner.

I seriously had no idea how good radio could sound. The soundstage, everything - better. We have really clear reception where we are and there's times that this sounds better than the CD player. I didn't really get it that tuner separates (at least good ones) provide superb source material.

We are having a non-stop KEXP fest now - check it out online.

For your next fix, try to find a Naim NAT01 tuner - which some radio-geeks say is the best sounding tuner ever made...and it matches the other little naim boxes.

I got way too obsessed and just bought a Creek T40 on Ebay. It won't be Naim, but at least they can be little English buddies. The Pioneer just dwarfs those little boxes.

Ain't that the truth. I've owned a Fisher R-200 for about thirty years and it sounds amazing. Unfortunately, for the past ten years I've lived in a place with NO radio reception. Still, it sits on the rack and impresses the audio weenies who drop by.
