bandol beat-down

last night at dinner at diner i had the 08 bandol roses from both pradeaux and tempier. it was my first time having both wines in the same sitting.

in every way imaginable the tempier out-classed the pradeaux. having said this, the pradeaux was delicious and a great wine (i have always been a fan), it simply suffered in comparison to the tempier.

where the tempier was integrated and really a complete and harmonious wine, the padeaux was disjointed and awkward, really showing its alcohol. the tempier was gorgeous fruit and structure, confident and simply delicious, the pradeaux never really found where it wanted to go, jutting out in every direction... awkward.

what are everyone's impressions of these two wines? as i said, i have always loved both wines, but head-to-head the tempier was, last night, clearly the better wine.

I don't drink ross this high up the food chain, but I'm curious. How can you call the Pradeaux "delicious" and then say It was "disjointed and awkward, really showing its alcohol." I have CdP bred tolerance for high alcohol, but really, not on ross. And disjointed and awkward sound like bad qualities to me. Am I missing the part that makes it good?

all the negative comments about the pradeaux were simply in comparison with the tempier. i usually love the pradeaux, and didn't overtly dislike it last night, but was so let down by it when it was sitting next to the tempier...

Interesting, I have a slight preference for the Pradeaux in 2008. I detected no excess alcohol (stated alcohol is 13.5%). For me, it's not a summer ros, though, for drinking outdoors on a warm day or evening. It's a fairly structured, serious wine for autumn when the weather is just beginning to turn, and to have with a meal. The Tempier is good, but I prefer the 2007 there which just seems to have more of everything.
